A chicken gizzard is a part of the giblet, a digestive organ in the bird’s stomach. Believe it or not, it is a popular food amongst various cultures as it is an inxpensive source of fats, protein, and vitamins. The protein in the gizzard builds and maintains cell growth during pregnancy. Being iron rich, it aids in the formation of hemoglobin, myoglobin, and blood cells and prevents anaemia in the mother. The presence of vitamins like niancin and riboflavin enhances the immune system, increases blood circulation, and maintains the health of the mother’s hair, skin, and eyes. The only caution lies in the high cholesterol content of the chicken gizzard as excess of cholesterol can constrict blood flow and increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke.
