Liver Sausage - also known as...
Liverwurst, Leberwurst, Leverworst, Lebar, Pasztetowa
Why should pregnant women avoid eating liver sausage?

Liver sausage is made from pig or calf liver, and is eaten around the world as sausages or spread. Pregnant women should avoid eating this food item. As it is essentially made up of liver, it contains large quantities of saturated fat and sodium. The saturated fat causes cholesterol and increases the chances of heart attack in the mother, putting her and her baby’s life at risk. Like every other liver item, the high levels of sodium in liver sausage can increase blood pressure, while an excess of vitamin A can cause birth defects. Although liver sausage is generally eaten after being thoroughly cooked, we recommend that you avoid eating it during this delicate phase.
