Thyme is a perennial herb that is mainly used for culinary and medicinal purposes. It is generally consumed as thyme tea or oil but it comes in a dry form as well. Although thyme has some beneficial antimicrobial, antifungal, antioxidant and antitussive properties it is believed to have several harmful effects as well. The biggest one being its menstruation inducing capabilities, that can lead to an unwanted miscarriage in the case of pregnant women. Thyme is also believed to trigger allergic reactions like swelling, rashes, and shortness of breath and greivances like heartburn, nausea, diarrhea, and dizziness. Pregnant women must consult their health care specialist or doctor for further guidance on the use of thyme, and even then have it in moderation.
