The FDA categorizes salmon under ‘best choices’ for pregnant women. The reason for this being, it has relatively low levels of mercury. Salmon is also considered to be one of the most nutritious foods in the world. Nutrients like selenium, phosphorus, potassium, vitamins B5, B12, B3 and D, Omega-3 fatty acids and proteins are essential for neonatal development and are found in abundance in salmon. Hence, expectant mothers can enjoy 8-12 ounces of salmon every week.
