Peppermint tea is a herbal hero of sorts offering an array of health and beauty benefits. It is natural, safe and helpful in healing a myriad of discomforts when consumed in moderation during pregnancy.

Just one cup of peppermint tea can calm the mind and soothe weary muscles. Thanks to Vitamin C and it’s antibacterial properties, it boosts the immune system, warding off cold and flu. It’s high fiber and antioxidant properties improve digestive health. Indigestion, gas, bloating and heartburn are common ailments during pregnancy. Menthol in mint eases these symptoms and provides relief from feelings of nausea, vomiting and symptoms of morning sickness. It’s anti microbial properties fight bacteria causing bad breath and maintain oral health. It also clears acne and gives glowing skin.

But limit your intake to no more than 2-3 cups a day. If you are using its leaves, stick to one gram or one tablespoon of leaves to avoid excess consumption. As menthol relaxes the muscles, excess consumption can cause the uterus to relax leading to the risk of miscarriage. Menthol also interacts with medicines. So be sure to get advise from your doctor about the safety of herbal teas during pregnancy.
