Why is sweet potato good for pregnant women

Vitamin A in sweet potato is good for both, the mom-to-be and the developing baby. Half a cup of sweet potato is enough to meet the daily vitamin A dietary requirement of pregnant women.

Contrary to popular opinion, it is not a starchy food when baked, since most
of the starch is broken down to maltose and other soluble sugars. They
rank as one of the healthiest vegetables, because of high levels of vitamin A, C, iron, potassium, and fibre.

Vitamin B6 in sweet potatoes helps prevent morning sickness and helps in the formation of red blood cells during pregnancy.

The high fibre as well as low carb content of sweet potatoes makes it a good alternative to potatoes in pregnant women with gestational diabetes.

Sweet potato leaves are also a good food choice during pregnancy. Read more about the benefits of this leafy green here.
