Why isn't goat cheese safe to eat during pregnancy

Since goat cheese is a soft mould ripened cheese, chances are that it hosts the bacterium listeria. Pregnant women are advised to avoid eating this cheese during pregnancy because this bacteria can cause an infection known as listeriosis in them. Apart from causing food poisoning, listeriosis can induce miscarriage, stillbirth, and premature birth. However, goat cheese without rind is considered to be safe for eating during pregnancy.
